There were two kinds of quad-.50 halftracks in Doss for the Iwo reenactment, one that shot blank cartridges and one that used propane to make flash and report. The propane rig is a lot cheaper to shoot (the other guy ran his guns for maybe three minutes out of the 80+ minute reenactment) but didn't sound nearly as impressive or spray casings and links everywhere. The gas rig was more of a putt-putt sound than a gun firing, but it did shoot flames out the barrels.
